Hi all,
My first bulb was a Urginea maritima, one of many plants received in a horticulture class at the Los Angeles County Arboretum in the late 1970s.  I also received my first bromeliad there, and friends soon after got me interested in cactus and succulents.  The bulb 'problem' was latent for years.  I picked up a few along the way, of the types that show up in cactus & succulent shows/sales, while also growing bromeliads, California natives, and bamboo.
Then somehow a year or so ago I came across the PBS web site.  It was when I started looking at your plant wiki that I really stepped out on a slippery slope!  I joined up, have participated in a few exchanges, and have read up on a number of topics in your list.  I have never participated in a list before, and was not sure about it at first, but now find it very helpful.  The info on bulb habitat is also very useful, for help with soils, exposure, and water.

I live a bit of way up a hill in Los Angeles in a air-drained belt, so have only had a light frost a few times in the 30+ years here.  (No frosts in the last 20 years or so.)  Though I dislike the summers here and wished it rained more, it is a wonderful climate for growing things.
There are a number of different plant clubs in LA, so the spring and early summer here can be plant sale heaven.  This spring, with sales cancelled, I have ordered plants from several vendors on ebay and elsewhere, with very good results.  Right now I am waiting to see what goodies I will get from the latest BX.

Kind regards,
Ron
