I have grown them in light shade and in medium shade. They do grow, but I am guessing not as well as in full sun. I certainly have trouble getting them to bloom. Mine have never gotten etiolated (I don't know if that happens with bulb foliage, it does with cactus and succulents, if grown in light that is too low).
