The current search engine for the list archive is Lucene, you can type 
in queries like subject or author (as well as contents) and link them 
with conditions.

Maybe you want a graphic user interface.

The intention is that the archive contains every post to the list ever 
and we have our own search engine.

Try this Google:

site:///https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/pbslist Mike Mace

In other words the list archives *are* indexed by Google and you can 
search them using Google.

(and Bing and Qwant).
