Barnardia numidica is from North Africa

 According to wikipedia there are diploid and triploid forms, which might explain the size difference.

The larger one I received (15+ years ago) as S.numidica, the smaller, S. scillioides.  Whether that is correct, I don't know.  Years ago when I looked, I had thought they had both been lumped into B. japonica.  But I'm not surprised how things change.
