Hi Sabrina,

List pod parent first and pollen parent second, and the "X" is read as "by":

H. 'Mom' X H. 'Dad'

This is in keeping with the convention in animal breeding and can be useful to later workers, because even though in most cases it shouldn't matter in the genetic outcome, it sometimes does.  And some crosses only work in one direction and not the other.  So it is helpful to know which plant was the seed parent and this convention makes it easy for anyone reading the tag later.
