New EU regulation on fertilizers

Dear EU-members,

Yesterday I received a letter from a company with whom I ordered
fertilizer in the past. They are supplying professionals but I could
become a customer even though I am not a professional gardener.

But from February 1st onwards there is a new EU regulation in force
(2019/1148) which prohibits the sale of  specific fertilizers to private
persons. The fertilizers concerned are highly concentrated and contain
raw materials which can be abused to produce explosives. Makes me think
of the devastating explosion in the port of Beirut.

I phoned the company, no way for me to get the fertilizer any more. In
my case it was the brand "Hakaphos", which comes in different types and
is a concentrated powder which is diluted in water before use. But a lot
of other products are affected as well. You would have to register with
your business number and passport number to get the said fertilizers in
future.

Bye for now

Uli
