Hippestrum outdoors in California

Hello Chuck,

Living in Portugal I can say that Hippeastrum is very happy out in the
garden in my climate. We have a typical mediterranean climate where I
live with hot dry summers and mild wet winters, probably wetter than
southern California. Most of my Hippeastrum are planted in the open
garden and do cope well with winter wet but slugs can be a problem,
eating both leaves and flowers or buds. Why don't you try with the more
robust and less valuable ones first? If you mention misters it sounds as
if you live off the fog zone in California. The Californian climate is
so complex that I find it difficult to put myself in your place. But
there should be more members in your situation who can advise better
than I can.

Hope that helps, bye for now

Uli
