Hello Elaine,

Thank you for your kind words. It always makes a big difference to see plants in their habitat, a photo is a substitute to a certain extent.
I live at the very south western tip of Europe in the Algarve near the small town of Monchique. The Atlantic is 25km away both in southerly and westerly direction. We are at an elevation of 350m, surrounded by hills and mountains, right in our back is Mt. Foia, the highest peak of the Algarve which rises to 900m. This may not seem very high but as it rises from a plain on the coast it has quite an impact. The bedrock is volcanic, we have constant slight seismic activity, the surface rock is Monchiqite, also called Foiait. We have huge boulders exposed on our land. Water and soil are lime free and slightly acidic and fertile.
The local Narcissus bulbocodium always grows on slate which is present here, too but not on our land. The dwarf Narcissisi are not able to compete with vigorous neighbors and very much benefit from fire. My own seedlings have the first flowers from a November 2018 sowing. Keep your seedlings moist and in half shade to keep them green as long as possible and fertilize regularly.
Greetings from the boulders in my garden. The tree in the foreground is a cork oak which was never stripped and the other trees are olive trees

Uli,
Thank you for the images of Narcissus and Erica growing wild where they choose. I always love to see how they grow in Nature. May I ask where you?re at? My N.bulbocodium from SX are on second year growth. Hope they make it to blooming state!

-Elaine.
