Herbivory and Lachenalia

I'd mentioned in a previous question that critters (I thought squirrels, but probably rats) ate the foliage on my Lachenalia. The entire collection was mowed down to soil level. I expected that I would lose some of them as a result. Watching the collection, though, it seems that most are recovering. I may not get blooms this year, but the leaves continue to grow and they aren't being eaten anymore.

One interesting outcome is that some of the taxa seem to have responded to the loss of foliage by producing more offsets. There are now several taxa with several new, young leaves emerging. Its not a surprising outcome, I guess, but interesting to see and note. This summer is my repotting year, so I'll get a better sense of what's going on in the soil.
