Jim McKenney belonged to several of my local garden clubs (NARGS, Four Seasons etc) and I just learned this from Jim Dronenburg from the Four Seasons Garden Club in the Maryland / DC / Virginia metro area. Jim was a good friend and I learned so much from him over the years. He had encyclopedic horticultural knowledge and understanding. He was also a genuinely kind and gentle person. I will miss him. I am not sure if we post these sorts of things to PBS, but I think that some people might want to know. Please disregard if the society has already heard the news. We just got a call from Maxine (and Bob) Kent. Maxine is Jim’s sister, and her landline is 301 926 8907. Please crosspost this to any people I haven’t, any groups that you know he was in that I can’t. Jim went into the hospital this late fall with diabetic complications, and after the hospital went to rehab. Reading between the lines, he got COVID in rehab. He died yesterday of COVID at Shady Grove hospital. Because of COVID, he’s being cremated. There will be a service, MUCH later. Maxine will keep the ashes and there will be burial with Wayne in Virginia, when it’s safe.
