Rick and all,

This is the furthest north I have heard of this species growing - Congrats. It is not unusual for Lycoris to take a year or 2 to settle down and begin blooming.

First this species is a fertile diploid and easily produces selfed seeds. I suspect they will get more seeds if cross pollinated with a different plant. L. squamigera is a sterile triploid.

Wait until pods begin to spilt and seed will turn black. Seed are surprisingly large -like a small pea. You can plant them as soon as ripe, do not store them for long. Scratch the soil and cover with 1/4 in and mulch the area well for winter. seedlings appear next spring, but may take 5 - 7 years to bloom. By then your surviving bulb should have multiplied well, too.

			Good luck Jim W.

Four years ago, another died, and for the last three years the last remaining one has bloomed. This year I have let it go to seed. At least it looks like it is producing seed. And that is my question: is this Lycoris self-fertile? The pods seem more promising than the sterile L. squamigera ever shows. Rick Rodichjust west of Minneapolis, Minnesotazone 4
