Kinda different...

Hey Ron,
I’m a new Huntington member this year. I was getting locked out of too
many events so I joined. Hope to use it enough to make it worthwhile. I
went to the sale on the second Wednesday of Sept. Its interesting what
they do have though for geophyte’s. There were various Lachenalia,
Boophone Disticha, Massonia Echinata, and some nice Velthemia Bractiata.
Curiously no Haemanthus ?
I see so much value in the ISI, as far as introduction and bringing some
rare cultivars at reasonable prices to the general public. I’ve gotten some
great plants over the years and some nice Schick Hybrid Echinopsis.

It would be nice with so many of the geophyte’s that our group enjoys to
see PBS partner in some way with an organization like the Huntington and
participate in a program that builds interest in geophyte’s.

I don’t believe though the mgt team has an appetite to broach the idea.

Prior to the Pandemic I had heard there is a nice South African Geophyte
garden at the UCI botanical garden. I thought Irvine was a nice central
spot to see if the SoCal member had any interest in meeting.

I believe the UCI Botanical Garden even had an annual Fall sale of SA
geophyte’s. Not sure it still happens but used to be an August event ?
Have you ever checked out their botanical garden at UCI?

Will ask the group and see?

Have a great afternoon Ron, appreciate you touching base.

Mike
