Lachenalia hybrids

Hi Jan,

I’m also in Portland, OR. I’ve found that some Lachenalia are floppier for
us than others (viridiflora being one of the floppiest). I think it all
comes down to timing the weather right.

I began watering my bulbs as soon as possible—right after the heat
dissipated and everything cooled down. Rather than using the rains as my
benchmark.

I’ve just accepted that my lachs will never be as perfect as they are in
the wild—splotches and stripes galore—but starting them earlier has shown
great improvement over their stature.

However, do keep in mind that my balcony is 100% south-facing without any
obstructions, so my plants do get direct sunlight for a while whenever the
sun is out.
