Well...no. I've lived in the Central Highlands of Arizona for nearly 10 years. Minimum winter temperatures are supposed to reach 0 F (-18 C), but I haven't seen anything below 10 F (-12 C), so far. I'll be growing my I. purga in a container so it can be taken in for the winter. I'll make sure it doesn't die back too much. Some Convolvulaceae, if they lose their top growth completely while dormant, never return. I'm also growing some Ipomoea lindheimeri. It may be hardy here, but I'll be taking it in for the winter just to be safe. And, I'm getting good germination from Ipomoea sp (blue, tuberous; pubescens?) seed received from the SX many years ago. I stored it in the refrigerator, as I do much of my extra seed. If so, the root will eventually get big like a sweet potato or horseradish and then be suitable for harvesting to use in the preparation of mojo bags. You might not have a lot of obeah practitioners in your area so the market might be limited, though. Good luck! The seed coat is pretty thick. I didn't soak them, just planted them in a pot of Pro-Mix type soil and all three germinated in less than a week. Thank you, Robert, for supplying these seeds.
