Master plantsman John Bleck of Santa Barbara passed away April 3 of this year, three weeks short of his 92nd birthday. He was a member of numerous plant organizations. He was a part owner of the cactus and succulent nursery Abbey Gardens. He managed the UC Santa Barbara research greenhouses. He created numerous miniature Aloe hybrids which are still grown today. I know he read and appreciated the PBS list because he referenced it in our conversations.
