I am going to jump in here because my name is Tom Masinter and I get a hoot out of seeing the name Crocus tommasinianus.

It naturalizes readily in grass, spreading by seed, and shows up here and there in my garden. I don't know how the seed gets dispersed so widely -- possibly by ants, like the Cyclamen species so common in the Pacific Northwest.

It even hung on to the last spent flower for a day or two. Fortunately for the pollinators I don't think it captured any, but it or another one was more fortunate on a Tristagma. I thought about adding the crocus spider photos to the wiki, but there are already a lot of photos of this species on the wiki. But when I thanked Mike Rummerfield for donating the seed he sent me photos of this species naturalizing in his garden in Washington state. Those photos are spectacular so I have added them to the wiki. Enjoy.
