topics for discussion

Early in the development of the online forum, there was a topic area
called "Heating your greenhouse," which started as what it says but
evolved into a place where various non-geophyte topics were introduced
and discussed. It was enjoyable for many of us, even when a topic bored
or even annoyed some participants. As someone who often feels socially
isolated, I liked it; it was a lot better than going to a senior
center.  I think using the forum this way is better than the email list,
whose users can't select the topics they want to see. There's also an
area on the forum designated for discussion of non-geophytic plants, and
it's also little used, even though most of us grow and travel to see a
wide range of plants.
