Hello All,

Here are some informations about my donation to the current BX
> Bulbs
>
> Albuca grandis, Bulbili. Yellow, impressive, 1,5m, winter growing
Tall winter growing and summer dormant bulb. Growing in sand in coastal fynbos on the West Coast of the southern Cape in South Africa. Towering above the low fynbos vegetation. These bulbs can swap a growing season and remain healthy and dormant, so never discard a pot „with nothing in it“…..
>
> Amaryllis belladonna 'Rose Foncé' sponaneous seedlings 1 or 2 years old
Spontaneous seedlings in the wrong place from a particularly good clump. This form is taller and brighter pink than the regular form, originally from the defunct nursery Bulb Argence. Will show some variation.
>
> Aponogeton distachyos, flower size
Flower sized dormant tubers. Start immediately in cold water, don’t put them into a heated aquarium. Warm water signals them beginning of dormancy. Winter growing summer dormant in warm climates but may grow year round in cooler climates. Needs full sun, flowers are edible (waterblommetjes) can be extremely invasive in warmer climates and must be kept away from natural aquatic habitats. I grow mine in pots which go into a large ceramic container on our terrace to replace a summer flowering dwarf waterlily. It will flower all winter and is a major attraction with visitors.
>
> Bunsvigia josefinae, from seed from Lauw de Jager 2022
Grown on from seed from Lauw de Jager from said Bulb Argence. Winter growing, summer dry dormancy. Will need some more years to get to flowering size
>
> Crinum bulbispermum, this year's seedlings
One of the easiest Crinum to grow, older bulbs are frost hardy if planted very deep.
>
> Gladiolus dalenii green flowered. grown-on bulbili
Spectacular jade green flowers, principally summer growing but in my garden behaving more and more like a winter grower. Will probably need another season of growing on before flowering.
>
> Seed
>
> Amaryllis belladonna Hybrids, very early, good reds, from seed from Bill Welch
These are a mixture of seeds from very early flowering hybrids raised from seed from Bill Welsh from California. He sent a large batch of seeds in 2017 when it was still possible….. very good colours, tall and some have radially arranged flowers which indicates Brunsvigia genes. Being so early they might be more suitable for cooler climates. But winter growing, foliage does not tolerate much frost.
>
> Anemone palmata
Charming Portuguese native, grows on both acidic and alcaline soil, winter growing and summer dormant.
>
> Campanula primulifolia, rare Monchique endemic
Impressive tall Campanula, 1,5 m with large mid blue bells. Grows in year round wet places in seeping water but can be successfully grown in moist garden soil. Easy from seed, self seeds in my garden into moist pots. Grows at higher elevation and may take some light frost but I don’t know how hardy it is. It always grows on acidic soil. Behaves like a short lived perennial or biannual, no summer dormancy. Not tuberous, but……
>
> Cyclamen persicum, pink, dark eye
>
> Cyclamen persicum white, silver leaf
>
> Cyclamen peseudibericum
All three are winter growing, spring flowering and summer dormant.
All Cyclamen seeds have a fairly hard and water repellent seed coating. Germination results are much better and faster when seed is soaked in lukewarm water with a drop of dishwasher liquid. This improves water uptake. Sow those seeds which have swollen and let the others soak a day or two longer until they also swell.
>
> Euphorbia monchiquensis, rare Monchique endemic
Another rare endemic of the Serra de Monchique. Tall sub shrub up to two meters but often shorter. Spectacular greenish yellow flowers in late spring and early summer, goes kind of half dormant after that. Makes a large tuber. Best pruned to the ground after flowering. Grows on acidic soil, I don’t know if it will tolerate lime and also I don’t know how frost hardy it is.
>
> Fritillaria lusitanica
Another Portuguese native, grows on a range of different soils. Winter growing summer dormant
>
> Iris foetida
Native here, arrived in the garden spontaneously, attractive long lasting orange fruit. Evergreen foliage, good in dry shade.
>
> Iris spuria, yellows
From the garden of John Lavranos
>
> Narcissus bulbocodium, early form
Very early flowering form, easy from seed, wild from the land of a friend nearby
>
> Narcissus papyraceus, wild form
Grows in large swaths and flowers in mid winter. Strongly fragrant but many people dislike the smell. Often standing in water at flowering time. Easy from seed but must never dry out during growth.
>
> Romneya coulteri
Tall and vigorous sub shrub from California. Very difficult to establish. It either fails or becomes a weed. Mine is small and so far well behaved. Very beautiful in flower.
>
> Tulipa sylvestris ssp australis, Algarve native, floriferous
This is the algarvian form of Tulipa sylvestris. It is floriferous. In habitat it grows in scrub in sunny places in between limestone boulders.

Subject: EU Exchange 13b and Exbury Special open for orders until Monday night
Date: Sat, 17 Oct 2026 00:55:37 +0200

Dear members in the EU,

the second and final round of this year's EU fall exchange is now open
for orders. The time window for ordering will close on Monday 19th at
24:00 Central European Time.
Every fully paid member of the PBS with a postal address in the EU can
order from the seeds and bulbs on offer. You do not need to be a donor
to be entitled to order. There is no limit of how many positions from
the list you can request, but you are only allocated one portion of each
item. Please refrain from ordering "one of each" of the offerings. If
you are not yet a member you can still join if you are tempted....
Please make sure you do not get confused with the US exchange, this one
is for EU addresses only.

Please send your request by e-mail directly to Martin Bohnet, who is the
director of the EU Bulb and Seed Exchange. Please do NOT send your
request to the forum or the email list, these requests cannot be served.
Please make sure you do not use the reply button when sending your request.

Martin's e-mail: garak@code-garak.de
PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR MAILING ADDRESS WITH YOUR ORDER; IT SAVES MARTIN A
LOT OF CORRESPONDENCE IF YOU DO.......
Orders will be accepted during the three day time window after the list
went online, closure will be announced in the forum. Distribution will
then be at random so that everybody has the same chance to get the rare
items in short supply.

Each portion of seed will be charged 2 US $, each portion of bulbs will
be 3 US $. For very big/heavy/rare bulbs this may be doubled. Postage
will be added at cost, converted into US $. Leftovers from the spring
exchange EX_012, obviously all seeds, are offered each portion at 1$.

Payment for items from the EU-BX can only be made by PayPal in US
Dollars to the PayPal account of the Pacific Bulb Society. Instructions
will follow along with the items. No cheques or credit cards can be
accepted. Please wait with any payment until you have received your
order. Again, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to
contact Uli Urban:johannes-ulrich-urban@t-online.de

Exbury Special:

We once again have received a very special donation of Nerine sarniensis
forms from Exbury Nerines, and like last time we'd like to offer the
possibility of ordering several packages. All bulbs are numbered,  and
some named clones, and we have in between 1 and as many as 30 of some of
these varieties. Not all of them are flowering size, but some actually
started pushing shoots here in storage. We will distribute all of them
equally on the ordered number of sets, and allow for 1 favoured clone
number per package you order, which we will try to fulfill by the usual
lottery rules. Here's the clone list:

Hi Laura,

thanks for the thumbs up - and about the big list: we wouldn't want it

Anyone here grow Gonatopus?
At one of my visits to Silver Krome Gardens in FL, I saw a type of
Gonatopus that was tiny! About 6 to 8 inches in height, with boldly
white/black banded petioles. Any idea what this species is? I'd love to add
some (and other species) to my collection.
Additionally, I have some massive G. boivinii (assuming), that are about 14
inches in diameter. Does that indicate it could be something else? Anyone
here enjoy this genus?
All the best, Jude

Dear members living in the EU,

The time window for orders from this year's autumn exchange is now
closed. Martin will have a big job to do to sort out all the orders and
trying to produce as little frustration as possible.... We had two very
large exchanges this autumn. Our thanks go to the members for their
generositiy. Without your donations this would not be possible.

The ordered items will be dispatched in the days to come.

We are enjoying all the nice correspondence with you and do look forward
to planting and growing all these treasures.

We will get back to you in due course through the same channels

Bye for now

Uli and Martin

Probably due to the super El Niño.

If you have a Facebook account, here are some spectacular photos of the desert flowering in Chile right now:

I just got back from a visit to the Desierto Florido, with Mark Akimoff
and two other gardening friends. My fourth trip there, and very good
despite some road and site closures. I have an illustrated talk on it
prepared for NARGS chapters; perhaps I could Zoom it for PBS if anyone's
interested.

Hi Jude,

I saw your post about Gonatapus from October 18th. So it did get out on the
listserve. I don't grow them so I can't help you but you might try heading
over the forum and posting something to see if you get more of a response?

all the best,

You might try contacting people at the International Aroid Society. Here's
the link for their website.

Good luck,

Anyone here grow Gonatopus?
At one of my visits to Silver Krome Gardens in FL, I saw a type of Gonatopus
that was tiny! About 6 to 8 inches in height, with boldly white/black banded
petioles. Any idea what this species is? I'd love to add some (and other
species) to my collection.
Additionally, I have some massive G. boivinii (assuming), that are about 14
inches in diameter. Does that indicate it could be something else? Anyone
here enjoy this genus?
All the best, Jude

Hi! Thank you! I am on their group as well. No luck there either. Seems
Gonatopus is too obscure for most! Best, Jude
