Allelopathy

There is a lot of chemical warfare in the plant kingdom where perennial
grasses will 'crowd out' tree seedlings, etc. and I was wondering if anyone
has information that might help me in my attempt to control weeds in
amaryllis (hippeastrums).
I know a lot of Amaryllidaceae seem to coexist happily with perennial
grasses so I see some reason for optimism in this plan. There are some
blends of 'low mow - no mow' grasses similar to those fine bladed tight
grasses use for golf greens that seem strongly allelopathic and I would
like to try using them to fill in around my hippeastrum bulbs to crowd out
taller dicot seeds that they pick up on their summers outdoors. An added
benefit is they could help to dry the pots out at the end of the growing
season as transpiration would be more aggressive than from the bulbs going
into dormancy. But, during the growing season the low mow grasses can
easily be kept to 6" with one trimming a year.
Any experience growing Hippeastrum in grass or any academic knowledge or
educated guesses would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tim
