The family Hydrophyllaceae, or waterleaf family, contains roughly 20 genera including mostly taprooted annuals, perennials, and a couple of shrubs. Many species are native to Western North America. Some notable non-"bulb" genera are Nemophila and Phacelia, among others. Recently taxonomists have reduced this family to subfamily Hydrophylloideae within the Boraginaceae.
