Primulaceae

Primulaceae or the primrose family contains 22 genera and ca. 1000 species. They mainly are found in temperate and mountainous regions of the northern hemisphere. Plants are all herbaceous and often contain colored juice. Root systems are rhizomatous or tuberous. Flowers are hermaphrodite and are pollinated by insects. Many members of this family such as Anagallis, Dodecatheon, Lysimachia, and Primula are cultivated as ornamentals. Dodecatheon is now included in Primula. Cyclamen, Primula and Trientalis are included on this wiki.
