Schizochilus

Schizochilus is an African genus of terrestrial orchids in the Orchidaceae family. Eight of the about 20 species are found in South Africa.


Schizochilus flexuosus grows in grassland or on damp sheet rock or damp cliffs in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Flowers are white with a yellow lip. Photos taken by Cameron McMaster in the Eastern Cape at Maclear.

Schizochilus zeyheri is found in montane grassland from the Eastern Cape to the Northern Province of South Africa. It is tuberous and has large bright yellow flowers in a dense nodding spike.
