Tulipa uniflora (L.) Besser ex Baker was first described in 1874. It is found in thickets and on exposed stony slopes up to 2400 m in Kazakhstan, Siberia, China and Mongolia. Growing from 10 to 20 cm, it has small yellow solitary flowers and is included in the subgenus Orithyia along with Tulipa heterophylla and Tulipa heteropetala. Tulipa mongolica Y.Z.Zhao was described in 2003, but it is considered by authorities to be a synonym of this species.
