I think Jan is right to keep Dichelostemma capitatum, a name people at least on the west coast know well. By the way, it's a pretty plant and the earliest themid to flower. It favors areas that are moist in spring and dry later. Mary Sue's remark about the number of true stamens (rather than 3 stamens and 3 staminodes) is a distinction of this plant. I recommend that the SX and BX publish synonyms along with previous or new names, so people won't think they're ordering a marvelous species they've never encountered before. I got caught often back when eastern European collectors sold seed under names based on the old Soviet floras, which often differed from general western concepts.
