I'm a bit surprised to read about encouraging the use of S.A. Post - In my experience, both the Website and the personal communication dis-encourage the usage of S.A.Post for international shipping, and that fits our own experience with the Gladiolus book. See above.

PS:I've removed your other topic - let's keep all Silverhill Info in one topic - Organizing info is one big benefit of the forum over the list....

At least the first ones look like Colchicum leaves - what's the season these pictures were taken in?

the Crocuses and the Berkheya - everything else is potted and will move into the frost free shelter if we get more than a slight touch of frost, though the Hedychium should take -10 °C in theory

November  is a gamble in my climate - there are things still in flower like this Hedychium of which I'm not sure if its a pure deceptum or a hybrid, but the tropical look becomes more and more surreal with all the trees dropping leaves. Other things may or may not open up depending on if there's a warm and sunny day or not - luckily, this 1st was one, so there's Crocus melantherus
, Crocus pallasii
, Moraea polystachya
and a small golden Oxalis in flower.

Last one is not a geophyte, but Berkheya cirsiifolia may show how far off normal the weather is - this year continues to be a wild ride.

hmm, the flower alone looks a lot like Nerine "Flugel" (which was likely meant as "Flügel" = Wing), one of my new ones - no idea if there are sarniensis genes in that one. Other than that, the autumn turns wetter, destroying delicate crocus, but Galanthus reginae-olgae
persists. Last picture fuels the speculation if I'll have my first Tropaeolum tuberosum
Flower Colors: orange, yellow, red
Flower Season: late summer
Special: climber, edible flowers, edible storage organ
flowers this season, last year there was no trace of buds to be found

the remaining Packages are on their way now - thanks for your patience.

for EU, the phyto is needed for seeds as well - the other questions need to be answered by an American, I'd guess.

To throw in a few numbers: we've had a seed value of 773€, 35€ phyto, 145€ postage (UPS international courier) and 111€ import tax. US$ and € are of similar value. Sounds bad, but the phyto&postage overhead melted down 11,25€ per person, making it bearable. Tax was proportional to seed value, so different for every one.

As we've had VERY bad experiences with the Gladiolus books on standard shipping ( took about 5 months, I think), we decided on the courier - which was fast until the German border, and then took weeks at the customs office. hooray!

The donation phase has officially closed. Please don't send in any more seeds. I've edited the topic title to reflect this.

Quote from: Ron Martinolich on October 20, 2023, 02:06:09 PMHere in the US our national history is so much shorter, but we never got to World War II.  That was fairly recent history in the 1960s, when I was in grammar school.

Well German education started handling WWII properly in the 1970s after the 1968 student protests where basically the new generation forced the establishment to face their past, so my parents (born 43 and 45) did not get there during their school time. By the time I got to school 84-97, we went through multiple age appropriate iterations of the Weimar Republic leading to 3rd Reich, including a concentration camp visit, which I guess face at least 90% of German pupils (Education is organized on federal state Level). But I think the educational impact is a lot bigger than history lessons, as e.g. a nationalistic morning ritual like the US "Pledge of Alliance" is unthinkable in German schools.

I was thinking about a comment on how she gave up on pacifism later... Actually I scanned the Tube a bit and did not find a single scene where the first physical attack came from Alexis (beating away the newspaper doesn't count) - Krystal and Dominique were seemingly far more interested in a wrestling career, though of course Alexis would have required a firearms certificate for some of her remarks placed before the violence....

Memory is a fickle thing - I would have sworn the physical aggression was more balanced...

All Packages without Perouse-Pelargonium seeds are on their way, I've yet to receive those, so I'm on a hiatus here.

Update: Pelargonium seeds are expected on Tuesday, so that's when things will move on

@Carlos : The upload function resizes to 1024 px on the longest side.

@janemcgary : At least greuteriana is again accepted at least as lutea subspecies and not a pure synonym as I too think the difference is unignorable. 2 questions:
a) my Sternbergias usually get the flowers with or, more often, after the leaves, while you seem to have bare flowers without leaves - which one is the "typical" behavior?
b) what's that cute tiny colchicum in the picture?

Oh well, everyone remembers that failed Austrian wannabe painter, noone remembers Edith Keeler. Oh wait, there's nothing to remember but that car accident.  Don't play with history, we have no idea how bad it might end up with a little change here and there.
