Despite the barrier, a number of species have become successfully
established over the entire length of the Peruvian and Atacama deserts,
such as Apium (Ciclospermum) laciniatum, Encelia canescens, Chenopodium
petiolare, Mirabilis prostrata and Loasa urens. Alstroemeria paupercula
occurs from Caldera in Chile to Chala in south-central Peru. Pasithea
coerulea and Fortunatia biflora occur from central Chile to southern Peru.
