Any idea?

The latter is common as dirt in the PacNW, but the former is restricted to
an 
area around Roseburg, Oregon (if I can believe what I read).

Incidentally, both of these species are nearly "invasive" in dry-summer
areas. 
They set copious amounts of seed and every seed germinates. I regret
planting 
them in my garden.
