My plants were grown from seed acquired from Ron Ratko's collection
list and some from Frank Callahan. The seed germinated at a low rate
and took about 5 years to flower. I have not tried it in the open
garden but it probably would survive down to around 15 F in a
sheltered position among shrubs. Currently the plants are in raised
beds under high cover and flowered this spring after a low of 17 F
where they are growing.
