Hi Norton, If the species you are trying to germinate normally is a winter grower then I would not expect the seeds to germinate in summer, but rather in fall as temperatures drop and the rains come in the natural habitat. So if they are not sprouting yet, keep the pot dry and water when the rains would normally come to the lomas. It looks like something other than T pavonia to me, could be another genus possibly. Good luck. Ernie DeMarie in NY z6/7 but more like 8 this year. Crocuses (small species ones), eranthus, galanthus, all up and blooming, might have flowers soon on Narcissus Rijnvelds Early Sensation near the house soon. -----Original Message----- From: norton cuba melly <nortonc26@hotmail.com> To: pbs <pbs@lists.ibiblio.org> Sent: Sat, Feb 25, 2017 11:32 am Subject: [pbs] Germinating Tigridia in Peru Hello everyone, I have seeds from a Tigridia species that grows in Lima Peru. , that has been classified as Tigridia pavonia. However, I' ve seen pictures of Tigridia pavonia, originally from Mexico, and believe there are morphological differences. So I will call it Tigridia sp. Lima. It has only been reported to grow in "lomas" of Lima, an ecosystem characteristic for being dry for 6 months (summer), and wet & covered by vegetation the other 6 (winter). The leaves start growing in June, the flowers appear from August to October, and seeds can be collected from October to November. Pollinators include flies and Pesis wasps also called Tarantula Hawk. I sowed the seeds in premix soil about a month ago, but havent seen anything happen. It is summer in Peru. Is it maybe not the right time of year to put the seeds to germinate? Any other advice for succesfull growth.? You can see the pictures of Tigridia sp. Lima following this link: http://pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/index.php/… or https://goo.gl/NYjBlT/ Best regards Norton
