Diane,
Mine flower when the canes are mature size - about 1 inch diameter, and at least 5 feet tall - and always on short day time, so late fall and also early spring since the canes are usually not winter damaged here.

They are interesting but unruly plants, I would like to try some of the seed when it becomes available again.

My three plants from Hammett’s 2018 hybrid seed are in pots in a large unheated greenhouse. I wonder how long before they will flower?

The only flowering tree dahlias I have seen were in California -years ago, probably at Strybing, but maybe in San Diego.
