He was the nicest guy. And what is most amazing is how many different colors and patterns and petal forms he was able to develop in what I think is an amazingly short amount of time starting from literally only a needful of species or varieties. For a number of years, Tony Avent of Plant Delights was able to import a number of his new, amazing varieties. But then that stopped. A couple of years ago, I saw a photo of one of his very recent cultivars and was blown away. So I wrote him to find out if he was still exporting them to the U.S. He said that sadly he wasn’t, but that if I was ever in Indonesia and wanted to try to get the permits and import them myself, to just let him know which varieties I wanted, what hotel I’d be staying in, and the dates, and he’d have them delivered to my hotel room free of charge.

If you have a Facebook account, you should see some of the truly amazing recent varieties he’s produced, multipetalled, striped, multicolored, rich vibrant almost neon colors, either on one of the Zephyranthes groups, or on his personal account. Amazingly, even though he found out about his terminal cancer prognosis maybe 6 months ago or so and mentioned it on Facebook, he kept posting photo after photo of yet more amazing varieties all the way up until this past Christmas.
