Lilies and cats

Hi all,

I'm in no position to judge the toxicity of the lilies, but I think I
have to take the panic of the topic:  Daylilies and Lilies are among the
most common garden plants in Germany, and not just since yesterday. Free
running cats wander in a radius between a few hundred meters (female)
and a few kilometers (male) on a daily basis, so it is virtually
impossible to get rid of all plants in question in such an area - yet
cats are at least in Germany the most common "domestic" animal, and
while I sadly see cats dead on the roadside, they all were victims of
traffic, none of poisoning. A free running cat has usually very good
instincts about what to eat, and what not.

Housecats are a different thing. In my experience (comparing my free
running fellow with my brother in law's apartment-only cat), limiting a
cat to a 3-room flat causes a severe psychosis, and those cats WILL
sample any plant and do a lot of other crazy things. So yes, no lilies
in the house for imprisoned cats, but no panic in the garden.
