Oxalis melanosticta variants

Some of my O. purpurea are growing very flat. Their conditions are: full
sun after about 10am when sunny, persistent winds, cool temps, fog anytime,
frequent tree rain (San Francisco hill top). I'd guess full sun is
required, and wind exposure would tend to encourage low growth (as in
alpine areas). I have no idea if browsing/stepping/mechanical effects would
also encourage low growth as they do with dandelions.
