Cleaning aroid seed (was glassines)

I've never had any irritation when extracting calla seeds.  I let the berry get somewhat dried to the point that the husk is sort of leathery, and the seeds come out easily.
Bear in mind the Ca oxalate crystals are little needles suspended in the sap.  Once the thing dries down a lot, there isn't much they can do, but putting it in a blender while fresh will indeed release them into the water.
On a related note, a friend took a weed whacker to a stand of Pinellia and later in the shower he thought he was covered with fire ants.
