I write with grease pencils, also called china markers - the waxy markers with paper wound around the outside that you pull off a bit at a time to reveal more marker. The marks do not fade, but can be rubbed off with a rubber eraser if you make a mistake. They are usually black, but I also have red, yellow and white. The white is good for writing on black pots.
