commercial bulb propagation

Thank you,
I have seen improvements in various hippeastrum bulbs over the years which
made me wonder: Exotic Star bulbs now make three spikes of 4 (or 5)
blossoms each instead of two blossoms per spike and Chico now has six
blossoms per stem instead of four. Incidentally, if you put Chico pollen
on Exotic Star, the hybrid can be gorgeous. I had one that, on the first
bloom, had one stalk with two flowers with red and cream pinstripes, but
one of the flowers was almost all red and the other, almost all cream.
Every time I look at the photo I do double-takes.
Anyways, I guess the improvements I see are cultural.
