Many people who grow Amaryllids do suggest some water in summer.

Most of the winter rainfall area of South Africa does get some summer rain - either in the form of storms or the odd big cold front that passes close enough to the land.

Even this summer which has been very hot and dry has given us some rain - less than usual, but some.

The fleshy roots tend to dry out too much if the pots are not watered at all.
