Roy,
Here in frost-free Yuma, the seeds will germinate in early spring after stratifying during our cool winter. The mature bulbs become about daffodil-sized, so sow the seeds in a one-gallon pot or a similar deep tub. The native plants in West Texas will take hard frosts; I've seen them in the Glass and Guadalupe Mountains.
