Very sad to hear this. Jim was a true treasure. He was so knowledgeable and willing to share…a positive impact on so many of our lives.

I am sad. I always enjoyed his intelligent posts on PBS. Some people thought he was pedantic. I was grateful that he was not afraid to share what he knew.

Hello everyone,
I have just learned of the death of Jim McKenney, a true treasure for so many garden groups. The leader of another group I belong to wrote the following:

Jim went into the hospital this late fall with diabetic complications, and after the hospital went to rehab. Reading between the lines, he got COVID in rehab. He died yesterday of COVID at Shady Grove hospital.

Because of COVID, he’s being cremated. There will be a service, MUCH later. His sister, Maxine, will keep the ashes and there will be burial with Wayne in Virginia, when it’s safe. Maxine will keep us posted, but she said, “it’ll be a long time.”
I personally relied on him for knowledge and expertise, which he shared with infinite generosity.
Sincerely,
