I was on the Board of Directors for ten years at: https://flatrockbrook.org/about-us/… We installed a deer exclosure fence to allow the forest to mature naturally. The deer were influencing the habitat by removing any young growth that provided habitat for many birds and other creatures. We had a consultant from Rutgers University who are the host of the State Cooperative Extension Service. We did get some blow back from neighbors who felt that the fence was pushing the deer onto their property. Our consultant stated that deer have 3-5 mile walk and rarely stay in one location for more than 1/2 day. So far the fence has worked out well. Biggest problem is the neighbors are propping open the gates to let the deer in to the Nature Center. Jane, Not more than 60 seconds ago a beautiful mature doe (she had twins last season) sauntered across our unfenced 20+ acre field maybe 100 feet past the veggie garden and small orchard. Ever watchful, Fred the Giant Schnauzer gave his deer specific warning from inside the house and the doe pranced into the swamp. We have a 1500 square foot fenced-in run off of the kitchen door for the beastie; his bark keeps the riff-raff away.
