Allium scorzonerifolium ssp. xericiense (Perez Lara)R.Fern. is a superior subspecies which is a showy non-bulbiliferous form. The type species, A. scorzonerifolium Desf. ex Redoute, has bulbils in the inflorescence and only a few bright yellow flowers. The subspecies is not as hardy as the species however.
