Jan and Anne Lise Schutte-Vlok

Jan Vlok, a botanist, ecologist, and naturalist and his wife, conservationist Dr. Anne Lise Schutte-Vlok are the authors of Plants of the Klein Karoo, both a field guide and a book about the ecology of this area. Besides including a description of the various habitats and a key to the families included, 1,445 species are fully described much more thoroughly than in most field guides and are illustrated with photos in the book and an accompanying CD. With their permission, selective photos from the CD have been added to the wiki. In 2010 the Botanical Society of South Africa awarded Jan Vlok the Marloth Medal in recognition of his immense contribution to flora conservation by spreading botanical science to civil society in simple language by means of publications, popular articles in newspapers, on radio, television and personal presentations.
