Asterostigma

Asterostigma Fisch. & C.A.Mey. is a genus in the Araceae family native to tropical and subtropical humid forests of Central and South America. The plants produce a single leaf, followed by an inflorescence if the plant is mature and healthy. The name is from the Greek for aster (star) and stigma (a mark), and refers to the star-shaped stigmas. In 2025 there are eight species.


Asterostigma lividum Engl. in 2025 is considered to be a synonym of Asterostigma luridum (Kunth) Kuntze, a species found in Argentina and Brazil. It was photographed by Tarcísio Eduardo Raduenz near Blumenau, Brazil. Height range: 30-70 cm.
