Cypripedium calcicola Schltr., syn. Cypripedium smithii Schltr., is a species from China where it grows in rocky, moist forests and thickets at elevations of 2600 to 3900 meters. Growing from 15-45 cm high, it has deep purple flowers in June-July (late spring, summer). Photo from Giorgio Pozzi.
