Stahlianthus is a genus in the Zingiberaceae family represented by six species found in southeast Asia. Pseudostems are not present and upright leaves arise directly from tuberous rhizomes.
Stahlianthus involucratus is a species found in eastern India to Thailand & north into southern China. This species was moved from the genus Kaempferia in 1991. The reddish coloration on the foliage is better in stronger light, but this species still prefers some shade especially during hot afternoons. Plants get to about 18" tall and are hardy to at least zone 8. White flowers appear from small greenish inflorescences which arise among the leaves in late summer. Photos by Alani Davis.
